Sustainability that takes root

First tree is planted.

Taking responsibility for your own city and its natural resources is taking on a new, tangible form in Jena. The Jena City Forestry Office, Kommunalservice Jena and Baskets Jena have joined forces to take a sustainable approach: for every successful three-pointer made by the Baskets at home games, a new tree grows in Jena's city forest. Together with Benjamin Engelhardt (Baskets Jena), Michael Rindt (Jena City Forestry Office) and Martin Steglitz (Kommunalservice Jena), the first English oak was planted in the ground at the nature experience center on Otto-Schott-Platz.

The idea is simple and effective. Sporting achievement is translated directly into sustainable action - trees that are planted and stay planted. Step by step, additional urban forest is created for the benefit of future generations. Fans experience directly that every 3 is more than just points on the scoreboard - it is a contribution to Jena, where we live.

A current overview of the total number of three-pointers made and the resulting contribution to the city forest can be viewed online at

At the end of the season, players, employees and fans will lend a hand and plant the trees themselves. In this way, a good idea will become a piece of living city history - comprehensible and firmly rooted in Jena's soil. The location will be announced shortly.
