Project: KSI: Expansion of the footpath into a cycle/walking path on Kahlaische Str., between Alexander-Puschkin-Platz and "An der Brauerei"
Duration of the project: 01.09.2024 - 31.08.2026
Partners involved: City of Jena (funding recipient and client), Ingenieurgesellschaft GIRWERT & PARTNER mbH (accompanying planning office), SPIE Versorgungstechnik GmbH (construction company)
Funding reference: 67K26628
Objectives and content: The planned measure forms a ring closure to the existing cycle path network of the city of Jena. The existing footpath will be converted into a cycle/walking path with a width of 3m. The measure will contribute to upgrading the function of a cycle route that was previously only designated as a secondary route and will fulfill the important feeder function from the main axes in the Saale valley towards the city centre and Westbahnhof. The route will be designated as a main route once it has been upgraded.
The measure will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the connection between the increased volume of cycle traffic from and to the city center and the urban cycle path network. In addition, by routing cycle traffic away from the roadway, the accident blackspot at the Alexander-Puschkin-Platz traffic circle will be avoided.
