Road maintenance

The KSJ building yard carries out maintenance and new construction work on public roads, paths and squares on behalf of the city of Jena.

This includes, among other things

New construction of roadway and sidewalk sections

in the course of maintenance and investment measures

New construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment:

Paving bituminous base and surface courses on roads, paths and squares
Pothole patching with hot or cold mix material
Construction of water-bound surface courses
Placing concrete and natural kerbs and palisades
Laying concrete and natural stone slabs and paving
Regulation of road verges,
partial gardening and landscaping work (GaLaBau)
Production and installation of railings
Renovation and construction of retaining walls and steps
Installation of bollards, benches, bicycle racks, waste bins

Cleaning and repairing road inlets and other drainage facilities

The removal of surface water is important for the durability of traffic routes.
We use high-pressure flushing equipment to clean around 12,800 road inlets, 82 debris traps and other municipal road drainage facilities.
Cleaning is scheduled to take place once a year. This involves flushing the pipes and emptying the sludge traps/buckets. Cleaning is also carried out several times at key points, e.g. after heavy rainfall events or increased leaf accumulation.
