When will my trash cans be emptied?
For the city of Jena, please first select your street. Then select your house number.
Any schedule changes due to holidays are already reflected in the online waste collection calendar and are indicated by “red dates.”

Organic Waste Disposal in 2026
Organic waste collection varies seasonally throughout the year.
From calendar weeks 1 through 9, collection takes place only in even-numbered calendar weeks on a 14-day cycle.
From the 10th through the 53rd calendar week, organic waste is collected weekly throughout the entire city.
Alternatives
If, in individual cases, the existing container capacity is insufficient due to a high volume of organic waste generated on a property, additional containers can be purchased. It is also possible to drop off organic waste directly at the recycling center.

Postponement of Waste Collection in 2026
General Public Holiday Policy – Rescheduled Collection
If collection falls on a statutory holiday, the collection for the remaining days is postponed to the next business day.
This applies to:

| Easter Monday | April 6 | Collections on April 7, etc. ... |
| Ascension Day | May 14 | Emptying on May 15, etc. ... |
| Whit Monday | May 25 | Emptying on May 26, etc. ... |
Exceptions – Early Collection
There will be early waste collection due to the following holidays: (Good Friday, Labor Day, and Christmas)
- Good Friday
Due to Good Friday, waste collection will be moved up.
This means that collections scheduled for:
| Monday, | March 30 | will take place on Saturday, | March 28 |
| Tuesday, | March 31 | will take place on Monday, | March 30 |
| Wednesday, | April 1 | will take place on Tuesday, | March 31 |
| Thursday, | April 2 | will take place on Wednesday, | April 1 |
| Good Friday, | April 3 | will take place on Thursday, | April 2 |
- May 1
Due to May 1 (Labor Day), trash collection will be moved up.
This means collections on:
| Monday, | April 27 | will take place on Saturday, | April 25 |
| Tuesday, | April 28 | will take place on Monday, | April 27 |
| Wednesday, | April 29 | will take place on Tuesday, | April 28 |
| Thursday, | April 30 | will take place on Wednesday, | April 29 |
| Friday, | May 1 | will take place on Thursday, | April 30 |
- Christmas
Due to Christmas, waste collection will be moved up.
This means collection on:

| Tuesday, | December 22 | will take place on Monday, | December 21 |
| Wednesday, | December 23 | will take place on Tuesday, | December 22 |
| Thursday, | December 24 | will take place on Wednesday, | December 23 |

Christmas Tree Disposal
A special collection run picked up the trees from January 12–16, 2026.
Example: If your organic waste bin is normally emptied on a Monday, place the undecorated tree next to your organic waste bin by 6:00 a.m. on that day; the tree must be no longer than 1.50 m—trim it if necessary!
The tree will then be picked up on the regular organic waste collection days (place it next to the bin; trim it if necessary).
