Vapes

A new law has been in effect since July 1: Retailers that sell vapes or e-cigarettes are required to accept returns of used devices free of charge. This makes proper disposal much easier for consumers.

Empty or defective vapes can be returned free of charge at the following locations, among others:

  • Kiosks, gas stations, tobacco shops, and vape shops that sell disposable vapes or e-cigarettes.
  • Municipal recycling centers in Jena

Why is proper disposal so important? — Vapes contain built-in lithium-ion batteries. If these are improperly disposed of with general waste or household trash, they can be damaged and cause fires in waste collection vehicles or sorting facilities. By returning them to the designated collection points, the devices are disposed of safely.

Our tip: Please never dispose of used vapes in household trash or the yellow bag. Instead, use the free return options available at retailers or at Jena’s recycling centers. This way, you’re making an important contribution.
