Little Collectors, Big Impact:

Even the youngest collectors show just how big sustainability and a sense of community can be. Since the beginning of the year, the children at the DRK Sternschnuppe daycare center have been collecting bottle caps with great enthusiasm. In the daycare center’s entrance area, a specially designed collection spot serves as a daily reminder of how many small contributions can add up to something big.

With plenty of creativity, the children designed a poster, built a collection box, and have repeatedly explored the topics of recycling and sustainability. The collection box, which is regularly filled, is a wonderful example of how even the youngest children can take responsibility for the environment and society. It is precisely this passion for collecting, this sustainable mindset, and this spirit of community that define the bottle cap campaign. Every single bottle cap counts—and together, many people can make a difference.

Next week, a small group from the Sternschnuppe daycare center will visit Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ). There, the children will learn firsthand what happens to the collected bottle caps after they’re turned in, why metal recycling is so important, and how their collection campaign helps the environment and the animal shelter. In this way, a simple collection drive becomes a vivid environmental education experience. KSJ and the Jena Animal Shelter would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the children, the teachers, and all the families who support this campaign with such great dedication.
