For over 30 years, the waste collection calendar has guided Jena’s residents through the year. What began as a simple leaflet listing collection dates later evolved into the popular “Waste Guide” and is now officially called the “Guide with Waste Collection Calendar.” For many years, the printed guide was distributed to over 65,000 households and served as a trusted everyday resource for many people.
Starting in 2027, the waste collection calendar will undergo further changes: The “Guide with Waste Collection Calendar” will no longer be available in its current printed form. The reason: More and more residents are using digital services. That is why we would like to focus our efforts more strongly on modern, digital services in the future and continue to develop them. By eliminating printing, production, and distribution, we’ll save paper, energy, transportation costs, and labor. In the future, we’ll be able to use these resources for other important tasks carried out by KommunalService Jena (KSJ).
The digital waste collection calendar is already available. For about three years now, residents have been able to view their individual collection dates online and, if they wish, set up reminders. For more information, visit: https://ksj.jena.de/entsorgungstermine. The digital waste collection calendar is also accessible via the MeinJena app, so your personal collection dates are always available right on your smartphone.
For anyone who would like to continue using the familiar calendar stickers, there is still an option: These stickers can be picked up at the Nord Recycling Center, Löbstedter Straße 56, in the weighing area. The waste collection calendar has been a part of Jena for more than three decades. With the switch to digital services, we’re continuing this tradition—in a more sustainable, up-to-date way that’s better suited to the possibilities of our time.
