Used glass is collected at approx. 150 locations in the city of Jena and 307 locations in the Saale-Holzland district.
Only empty glass sales packaging, e.g. bottles, jars and flacons, should be placed in the containers.
Bottles and jars are sorted by color into the glass containers (igloos).
The glass containers are emptied separately according to color.
Disposable bottles are reused or recycled, e.g. into new bottles.
Various markings on the one-way deposit packaging indicate that a deposit is required:
Most bottlers mark disposable packaging with the DPG symbol and a barcode.
Returnable glass bottles are rinsed and refilled. You always have to pay a deposit for these bottles. The deposit is refunded on return.
The glass igloos are emptied by Servicegesellschaft Jena mbH and transferred to KSJ at Löbstedter Straße 68.
After collection, this waste is allocated to the dual systems according to market share. The dual systems are a take-back system for the collection, sorting and recycling of sales packaging. Der Grüne Punkt - Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) was the first and is probably the best-known dual system. Today, "Der Grüne Punkt GmbH" is one of many providers of take-back systems.
Each dual system is responsible for meeting its own statutory recycling quotas. The collection mix collected in Jena is transported to the individual sorting/recycling plants by haulage companies.
