Pollutants

Hazardous substances/special waste are wastes that, due to their type, nature, and quantity, pose a particular risk to human health, air quality, or water quality; are explosive or flammable; or may contain pathogens that cause communicable diseases.

Hazardous waste must not be placed in the general waste bin!

Special handling is required for its disposal. Under the Thuringian Waste Management and Contaminated Sites Act, the City of Jena, as a public waste management authority, is responsible for collecting small quantities of hazardous waste from households, small businesses, and service facilities.

On behalf of the city, we handle the collection, sorting, labeling, and packaging of hazardous waste for transport. Recycling or proper disposal is carried out by a qualified company.
