On the Sunday of the dead, 26.11.2023, Kommunalservice Jena offers all interested citizens the opportunity to visit this facility. You can inspect the technology and the attractive premises and ask our staff any questions you may have. Guided tours take place every hour on the hour between 10:00 and 18:00.
The occasion is 125 years of cremation in Jena.
The first crematorium in Germany was opened in Gotha in 1878. On February 14, 1898, exactly 20 years later, the first cremation was also carried out in Jena.
The crematorium in Jena was repeatedly modernized until 2016, when a modern, functional new building replaced the old technology in May 2016.
