Thuringian timber market

For the 22nd time in a row, the traditional Thuringian Wood Market in Jena's city center on April 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. offers a special experience all about wood. There is plenty to see, buy and experience at over 100 stands: Joiners, carpenters, ladder makers, spoon carvers, wood sculptors and other craftspeople will be presenting their "wooden" products. There is a wide range of products on offer, from practical items to small and large works of art.
Visitors can get an insight into woodworking professions by trying it out for themselves, for example carving.

Hands-on activities:

  • Paper making
  • Fretwork
  • Painting wooden objects
  • Ride in a hand-operated wooden carousel

Demonstrations:

  • Carving and woodturning
  • Wood sculpting
  • Production of wooden barrels
  • Chainsaw art

The market will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Jena at 10 a.m. on Eichplatz. Afterwards, the city forestry office of Kommunalservice Jena will once again provide entertainment throughout the day with a colorful program - with demonstrations of large equipment, horseback riding and a carpentry gossip by carpentry trainees, there is something for young and old. There will also be interesting facts about our municipal forest, hiking trails and educational opportunities, and timbersportsmen and women from Austria will once again be on hand to demonstrate their skills with chainsaws and other heavy machinery. Meanwhile, Thuringian specialties will ensure a satisfied stomach.

Admission is free!

Extra tip: Next door on Jena's market square, the handmade days continue with homemade products and crafts. Regional traders present their "handmade" products.
