Kommunalservice Jena will begin renovating a section of Wiesenstraße from May 12, 2025. The measure concerns the area between the "Am Steinbach" junction and the construction site of the parallel construction project at the Brückenstraße junction. The length of the renovation section is around 620 meters, the total area covers approx. 5,200 square meters.
The work is intended to maintain the road and has become necessary due to the badly worn condition of the asphalt surface course. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in cracking, leaching and grain breakouts, which have already resulted in minor potholes.
The plan is to lay a new asphalt surface course with a thickness of 4 centimetres over the entire surface. In some areas, it may also be necessary to replace deeper layers - binder and/or base course - if damage is found there.
The existing road edges will also be upgraded as part of the project: The current concrete verges will be replaced with new kerbs made of granite. At crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists, these will be made barrier-free. In sections without edging, the verges and swales will be renewed.
The Strassing company from Erfurt is carrying out the construction work. The planned construction period extends from May 12 to probably June 13, 2025. The traffic routing during the construction period was determined in close coordination with the responsible traffic authority and the parallel measure at the Brückenstraße junction.
As through traffic on Wiesenstraße is currently severely restricted by the neighboring construction site, the municipal service is deliberately using this low-traffic window for the renovation.
The majority of the work can be carried out with half-side closures, whereby accessibility for residents is guaranteed at all times. The new asphalt surface course will be laid in two construction phases with full road closures. By dividing the construction phases at the level of the wholesale food market, access to the market will be guaranteed throughout the entire construction period. Residents south of the construction site will be able to reach their properties via Löbstedter Straße, while properties to the north will be accessible via parts of the new traffic circle on Brückenstraße.
When the renovation work is completed in mid-June 2025, Wiesenstraße will be reopened to out-of-town traffic in the direction of Kunitz. The next construction phase at the Brückenstraße traffic circle will begin at the same time.
Kommunalservice Jena asks all residents and road users for their understanding for the restrictions associated with the measure.
