Cemetery tour

More than 50 visitors took part in the two-and-a-half-hour tour of the North Cemetery on August 6, 2025. The event was met with great interest - particularly due to the successful mix of scientifically sound content and vivid explanations.

The tour was conducted for the third time by cultural scientist Dr. Barbara Happe (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) and cemetery manager Bertram Flößner. Both contributed their respective expertise effectively: Dr. Happe provided cultural and urban historical background, while Mr. Flößner reported from his daily practice and gave in-depth insights into the structure and current development of the North Cemetery. Their collaboration enabled a lively presentation of this important urban place of remembrance.

The participants were made up of a well-mixed group - both from Jena and from surrounding towns and municipalities. The visitors showed great interest in the history and development of the cemetery and in current issues relating to cemetery culture.
