On January 1, 2002, Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) started its business operations with the current logo. It emerged from the merger of VEB (K) Stadtwirtschaft Jena (itself founded over 30 years ago) and VEB (St) Stadtbaubetrieb Jena (building yard). The "K" and "St" in brackets were a common addition in the former GDR to designate a "district-" and "municipal communally managed" state-owned enterprise (VEB). The city of Jena's oldest municipally-owned company was established with the resolution of 26.09.2001 and subsequent publication. The success story began with around 200 employees and around 70 vehicles.
"Right in the middle of everything and an integral part of the city's image," reports Uwe Feige, "Works manager from the very beginning". Among other things, he laid the foundation stone and continuously built up the KSJ into a modern and diverse service provider that works for the city of Jena as well as for private and commercial customers in and around Jena.
Today, the company is anchored in a large number of areas of municipal services of general interest in the Jena cityscape and the surrounding area. For example, the KSJ is responsible for waste disposal, road construction, light and signal points, urban space and green space maintenance in the city area. It also looks after the municipal cemeteries and runs the funeral home in Jena. However, this is not possible without committed and reliable specialists who face the daily challenges of the tasks entrusted to them and master them with motivation and quality. With currently around 400 employees and 15 trainees, the company is responsible for the care and maintenance of around
80.000 waste garbage cans
68.000 trees - in addition to the municipal forest
55.000 m² of paths and parking areas in green spaces
