Box trees infested by the box tree moth are accepted at the recycling centers for a fee. They must be packed in sealed bags. They will be disposed of as Residual waste.

An alternative to box trees could be yew, dwarf honeysuckle, barberry, thyme or sainfoin.

Please note that boxwood residues infested by the boxwood borer do not belong in the organic waste garbage can! The pest can only be reliably killed by very high temperatures and a lengthy fermentation process.

Green caterpillar box tree moth

This was introduced from East Asia and has been spreading in Central Europe since 2007. Within a few days, box trees are completely eaten bare by the green caterpillars, which can be up to 5 cm long. Sustainable control is often not possible.
Unfortunately, the only option is to grub up the trees and dispose of them separately.
