A total of around 4.25 tons of crown caps were collected. This resulted in a donation of 970.02 euros, which will benefit the educational work of Naturschutzjugend Jena (NAJU). The donation was handed over at the NAJU regional office in Jena-Leutra. Uwe Feige from Kommunalservice presented the donation to Daniel Werner, State Youth Coordinator of NAJU Thuringia. The money will go towards environmental education work and the operation of the NaturErlebnisHaus Leutratal, a nature-based education center for children and youth groups.
"This result shows what is possible when many people work together. Every single crown cap counts - and together they provide valuable support for environmental education," said Uwe Feige at the handover.
Naturschutzjugend is the youth organization of NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) and has been involved in nature and environmental education for many years. At the NaturErlebnisHaus Leutratal, children and young people experience animals, plants and ecological relationships first-hand. Projects range from stream and forest days to practical species conservation work. This educational work is worthy of support - and is specifically supported by the crown cork collection.
Daniel Werner thanked everyone involved: "The donation helps us to give children and young people a direct experience of nature. Especially in times when experiences of nature are becoming rarer, this work is more important than ever.
Special thanks go to everyone who made this strong collection result possible:
- Largest single donation: Jena Hospice - over 400 kg of crown caps
- Citizens from Jena and Pößneck - between 130 and 180 kg
- Numerous associations, initiatives and individuals who collect regularly.
The crown cork collection remains a joint campaign. The KSJ continues to cover the handling costs. The respective donation amount is based on the current scrap rate.
From now on, collections will be made for the Jena Animal Shelter via the Tierheimverein Jena e.V. (Jena Animal Shelter Association). The proceeds are scheduled to be handed over in January 2027 - to support the important work in the field of animal welfare. Those who collect help twice: the raw material is recycled - and at the same time nature and environmental protection is strengthened locally.
