Prehistoric times awaken at Jenzig: the Jena Dinosaur Trail delights hikers and dinosaur fans with numerous interactive elements. Two new stations and a fascinating AR dinosaur take explorers of all ages on a journey through time into the world of dinosaurs. The new stations can be experienced on site and expanded digitally via the free "SaurierPfad Jena" app - for example with an audio guide and impressive augmented reality (AR) projections.
A digital highlight: the AR dinosaur Tanystropheus
The highlight of the extension is the AR dinosaur Tanystropheus, also known as the "giraffe-necked dinosaur". With its striking, long neck, it fascinates visitors, who can also experience it in action thanks to the latest AR technology. The dinosaur is seamlessly blended into the real environment via the smartphone camera, making the trail an impressive experience. This is made possible by rooom AG's technology, which displays digital 3D models realistically.
New stations for more knowledge
Two new information boards enrich the trail:
- Evolution of the dinosaurs: an interactive board with turntables illustrates the development of dinosaur species over millions of years and invites visitors to discover the developments for themselves.
- Retrospective: A four-meter-long timeline, supplemented by digital 360° panoramas, provides a realistic insight into the prehistoric eras. Whether directly on the board or via app - the past becomes vivid and imaginable here.
An innovative nature experience with commitment and team spirit
The SaurierPfad Jena has been delighting visitors since 2018 and continues to grow - thanks to a dedicated trio who put their heart and soul into designing and maintaining the trail: the Jena/KSJ City Forestry Office, the Jenzig-Gesellschaft e.V. and rooom AG. For the current extensions, these three partners have once again demonstrated their team spirit. The Berggesellschaft, which is regarded as the good spirit of the Jenzig, looks after the trail with dedication and ensures that the Jenzig remains a popular nature destination. Thanks to their initiative, funds from the Jena citizens' budget for 2022 and 2023 were obtained for the further development of the trail. The city forestry office took on the planning and content design of the new stations, while rooom AG updated the app with innovative new AR features and an extended audio guide. The design of the trail is now complete - the task now is to ensure its sustainability in the coming years.
The SaurierPfad is freely accessible at all times.
The "SaurierPfad Jena" app is available free of charge for Android and iOS.
