On July 9, 2025, the Executive Board of the German Association of Local Utilities (VKU) elected a new Executive Committee in Berlin. Dr. Ulf Kämpfer, Lord Mayor of the City of Kiel, was confirmed in office as President of the VKU. Our plant manager Uwe Feige, Kommunalservice Jena, was also re-elected as one of the association's three vice presidents.
New members of the Executive Committee included Michael Böddeker (SW Neumünster), Silvia Dollinger (SW Eichstätt), Carmen Haberstroh (City of Metzingen), Markus Hilkenbach (WSW Wuppertal), Dr. Michael Maxelon (Mainova AG), Arndt Müller (SWT Trier) and Thoralf Uebach (SW Neuruppin). The election took into account both the sectors and the regional diversity of the association. The VKU now represents a total of 1,601 member companies.
The traditional VKU summer party at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin followed the Board meeting. Numerous representatives from politics, business and the media took the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas - including Federal Minister Dr. Karsten Wildberger, who gave a welcome address.
Uwe Feige emphasized during the event: "Public services have never been as important as they are today. Personal exchange and cooperation within the association are crucial in order to be able to reliably shape municipal solutions in the future."
