On June 23, 2026, it’s that time again: For the tenth time, Public Services Day will be celebrated nationwide—this year under the motto “For each other. For you. For us. For everyone.”
Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) is also using this occasion to shine a spotlight on the people who, through their daily work, ensure that our city runs smoothly. The concept of municipal public services has a long tradition: as early as the 19th century, cities and municipalities began organizing essential services such as water supply, waste disposal, and street lighting on their own. This was driven by the realization that these tasks are indispensable for the common good and must be reliably managed under public responsibility. To this day, public services stand for ensuring the essentials of life—independent of economic interests, comprehensive in scope, and accessible to all citizens.
Whether it’s street cleaning, lighting, traffic signals, funeral services, waste disposal, or the maintenance of parks, green spaces, and playgrounds—through their daily work, our employees make an indispensable contribution to life in Jena. They ensure that essential municipal public services are provided reliably, safely, and sustainably—today and in the future. As a municipal enterprise, we know that public services are a team effort. They thrive on cooperation and on each individual’s commitment to the greater good. That is why KSJ is actively participating in the nationwide campaign organized by the Association of Municipal Enterprises (VKU).
The campaign launched on June 15, 2026, and runs through the day of action on June 23. Under the hashtag #TagDerDaseinsvorsorge, it highlights how important solidarity and commitment are for a strong municipal infrastructure—and, above all, who is behind it. The focus is on our employees. They demonstrate what it means to take responsibility for the common good and to be there for one another—every day, come rain or shine.
“Our approximately 420 employees and 15 apprentices make an important contribution every day to the lives of about 110,000 people in Jena. They ensure that municipal public services function reliably—and they do so by working closely together. The motto ‘For each other. For you. For us. For everyone.’ sums it up perfectly: public services are a team effort. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all our employees,” said Plant Manager Uwe Feige.
