The replacement construction of the Forstweg bridge over the Weimar-Gera railroad line will be carried out from the beginning of 2025 to the end of 2026. This step is necessary because the existing bridge is in a poor condition, has reached the end of its normative service life and needs to be upgraded for the planned electrification of the Holzlandbahn from 2027.
Key details of the construction project:
- Tree felling: Trees will be felled in the area surrounding the structure from as early as January 2025 to make way for the work. This measure is necessary to clear the construction site. Once the work has been completed, replacement planting will be carried out to restore the natural environment.
- Bridge construction: The actual construction of the new bridge will begin in May 2025 and will continue intermittently until the end of 2026.
- Traffic restrictions: Due to the cramped conditions on site, there will always be considerable obstructions and restrictions for vehicle traffic on the access routes.
- Temporary bridge: A temporary bridge will be erected next to the construction site for pedestrians and cyclists to ensure mobility during the construction phase.
This construction measure is an important step towards securing the infrastructure and preparing for the electrification of the railroad line.
