Refurbishment of the Stadtrodaer Straße surface - 2nd construction phase: barrier-free conversion of the "Jenertal" bus stop (out of town)
Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) is continuing the renovation of Stadtrodaer Straße together with Jenaer Nahverkehr. In the second construction phase, an approximately 700-metre-long section between the traffic monitoring system at the Seidel parking lot and north of the "Am Stadion" junction will be renewed. At the same time, preparatory work is being carried out for the barrier-free conversion of the "Jenertal" streetcar and bus stop.
Background:
The carriageway is being given a new wearing course (4 cm). This surface course was last renewed in 2005 and, after 20 years, is showing clear signs of damage such as cracks, leaching and grain breakouts - in some cases down to the binder course. In order to preserve the substance of the road in the long term and ensure road safety, the surface course is being completely renewed and the binder course is also being replaced in some areas. Stadtrodaer Straße is Jena's most important arterial road. It is being renovated in stages - the first section was already repaired in 2024 and others will follow in the coming years.
Reconstruction of the "Jenertal" bus stop:
Parallel to the roadway renovation, preparatory work is being carried out for the barrier-free expansion of the out-of-town bus stop. This will involve raising the kerbs, adapting the road drainage and making the pedestrian crossing barrier-free in accordance with current standards.
Construction period and traffic routing
- Period: August 25 to October 2, 2025 (week 35-40)
- Construction company: Streicher GmbH, Jena
- Traffic: A full closure of the affected directional lane is necessary for the work. During this time, traffic will be guided on one lane in both directions.
- Preparatory work: The central reservation north of the "Am Stadion" junction will be paved at the end of week 34.
- Detour: Traffic will be diverted via Wöllnitzer Straße.
- "Jenertal" bus stop: Out of service during the entire construction period.
- Seidel parking lot: Remains accessible - access via a temporary asphalt surface. Three damaged trees will have to be felled; replacement trees will be planted in consultation with the environmental protection department.
- Streetcar: Stops remain in operation throughout.
- Pedestrians: Crossing at the Jenertal junction via temporary traffic lights. Short-term closures during special work (e.g. milling, asphalting) - detour via the crossing points "Friedrich-Engels-Straße" and "Am Stadion".
Note
The KSJ and Jenaer Nahverkehr ask all road users for their understanding for the restrictions and recommend that they follow the instructions on site.
