Used textiles

Kommunalservice Jena operates a nationwide collection system for used textiles and shoes.
The orange containers are mainly located at the collection points for glass and at the recycling centers.

The proceeds from the recycling of used textiles flow into the City of Jena's fees budget and thus benefit the residents. Alternatively, old clothes can also be handed in to the clothing banks of charitable organizations.

You can put used clothing and household textiles in the bins:

  • Clothing, blankets, bags, scarves, fabrics, curtains, comforters, pillows, bed and table linen, towels, handbags, stuffed animals and pairs of shoes.

Please only throw in clean and dry textiles, packed in bags and sealed! The textiles must not be heavily soiled, worn, damp or musty.

  • Heavily soiled, torn old textiles, damp textiles, plasticized textiles or textiles with electrical/electronic components do not belong in the used textiles container but in the residual waste garbage can.

Example: One or two small holes or two missing buttons in an otherwise clean sweater or shirt are not the problem and can help people in need. The emphasis here is deliberately on "badly", because nobody will reuse a badly torn shirt or a torn tablecloth that consists only of scraps of fabric, nor is it possible to make cleaning cloths from them.
