In the week from January 20 to 24, 2025, colleagues from Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) playgrounds replaced the slats on seven benches on Wenigenjenaer Ufer. However, after the weekend, on Monday, January 27, the KSJ employees discovered that these benches had been covered in graffiti. Other benches on the opposite bank of the Saale (Wiesenstraße cycle path, near the Wiesencenter) were also defaced.
Graffiti is a persistent problem in public spaces. Playground equipment, benches, litter bins and other furnishings are regularly sprayed - often with political messages. This vandalism not only causes considerable work for the KSJ teams, but also shows a lack of appreciation for the work carried out.
The affected benches, which were painstakingly renewed just a few days ago, now have to be cleaned and sanded again in order to restore them.
