In spring 2026, the tree care division of Kommunalservices Jena (KSJ) successfully replanted a total of 118 trees in the city of Jena. The trees were planted in the districts of Drackendorf, Krippendorf and in the area of the Lobdeburg tunnel, among others. The aim is to supplement existing green structures, close gaps and set new ecological accents in the urban area.

The newly planted trees include 30 fruit trees, including traditional trees such as apple, pear and cherry trees. These not only make an ecological contribution, but also enrich the cityscape through their blossoming and fruiting. The planting is complemented by 47 deciduous trees of proven main tree species such as oak, lime, maple and hornbeam, which are characterized by their robustness, longevity and great importance for biodiversity and the urban climate. In addition, special tree species have also been specifically integrated. These include the sweet chestnut, the amber tree and the primeval sequoia. These species not only bring diversity to the stock, but are also characterized by specific properties - such as high adaptability, special autumn colouring or resistance to climatic changes.

Special thanks go to the eight tree donors who supported the spring planting with a total of 3,353 euros. KSJ would like to expressly thank all supporters for their contribution to a greener Jena. Trees play a key role in the city: they improve air quality, provide shade, bind CO₂ and help to cool the city during hot spells. At the same time, they create habitats for numerous animal species and increase the quality of life for citizens.
